Gilbert Salazar has worked as a youth serving professional for over two decades. Beginning as an AmeriCorps member for the National Civilian Community Corps and then at a bilingual education school through the Walla Walla Valley AmeriCorps, to a non-profit Educator and Coordinator for such organizations as the Volunteer Center of United Way of Monterey County and the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center. Gilbert has a Bachelors of Arts in Social Justice Education, from California State University of Monterey Bay and a Masters of Applied Theater Arts, from University of Southern California, with further training at the Center for Theater of the Oppressed in Brazil.

In his work Gilbert has developed curriculum for such topics as: anger management, sexual assault prevention and healthy relationship building, conflict transformation and social emotional learning.The issues at the focus of Gilbert's work have been: Educational Equity, Systems of Power and Privilege, and Gender and Violence. In 2013 Gilbert began Restorative Justice work with the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools at Markham Middle School, trained through the California Conference of Equality and Justice. As of 2015 Gilbert became an independent contractor providing workshops, trainings, presentations and consulting to the following organizations:
